A classic blue blazer traditionally has been synonymous with pearls, country clubs, and prep school/corporate uniforms. But fashion bellwethers like Sarah Rutson, Emmanuelle Alt and Lauren Santo Domingo (all pictured below) are breathing new life into the old wardrobe basic, sporting it in ways that look anything but fusty. Spurring the trend is the fact that navy jackets are being re-issued in flattering modern cuts, from gorgeously fitted (and nipped in at the waist) to tuxedo-inspired to oversized and double-breasted (chicly mannish). I think these new blazers are executed best when offset by relaxed jeans or something entirely unexpected, like, for example, LSD's feather skirt, or a pair of leather shorts. I'm loving these blue blazers from The Row, Balmain (like the one above, on "final" sale), Club Monaco, and Banana Republic.

ahhhh. everything emmanuelle alt wears is just perfection. i love her. and now i need a navy blazer.
You have now just justified my purchase of a navy blazer last year from Zara.
Loving how these ladies are wearing them as almost an alternative to a trench or jacket instead of just saving it for office wear.
Can you tell me who makes the jacket that Emmanuelle is wearing? I like the alternatives that you provided, but if you happen to know the maker I would really appreciate it.
It is by Balmain.
It may be from a prior season, so not sure it's for sale anymore. I updated the Balmain link in the post to point to one that looks more like the one in the first picture and the one that Emmanuelle is wearing.
I love it, the last outfit is just perfect. I guess i really need to buy a navy blazer now!

I love wearing navy blue blazer. I just wore my Ralph Lauren navy blue blazer yesterday for a job interview. I hope it will bring me luck. But Navy blue blazer is just the best outfit staple. Emmanuelle, Sarah Ruston and LSD are always so stylish. Thanks for featuring them in your post.
any suggestions on shoes that might work with the jeans/jacket combo?
Hello,
I love your blog!! You have become my go to person for fashion advice. So I have a question...any other navy blue blazers you can think of that are between Balmain and Club Monaco in terms of price?
Thanks so much!! And keep the posts coming!!
Here's another great blazer to consider from All Saints: http://bit.ly/MoQ0vs

Just bought the Club Monaco one, which has a great slim cut. Thanks for the tip!

I love the blazers but the black bag in the first picture is amazing! Any idea where I can find that?
