big apple basics

Friday, October 25
There's a poached chicken salad that everyone likes to order for lunch at Farmshop in Brentwood, to which I attribute miraculous stay-full-till-dinner properties. While I was mowing mine down yesterday, I paused to savor my friend's earrings--a jaw-dropping pair of puffy gold heart hoops. She informed me that they were by Real Fine Studio, a new LA-based line that also designs the cutest signet rings, which apparently are all the rage with twenty-something hipsters. We also talked about an upcoming wedding in Lake Como and what to wear (this, this and this), bags that don't break the bank (my new Coach, below, and the $88 Bottega lookalike, last pic, real deal here!) and bags that will (Khaite!), favorite new jackets (Simkhai, Pixie Market, Mango), and the next must-read on my list! Happy Weekend!

shortcut to shine
In case you’re wondering, the path of least resistance to evening glamour is ME + EM’s new sequin pants. They’re beyond comfortable and yet they can confidently whirl around a party with the elegance of a cocktail dress. I love them–and all the easy on-top options to go with including the tie-neck blouse with elastic cuffs, pictured, this pinstripe ruffle top, this cropped tux shirt, the ruffle silk blouse, and this striped silk top. P.S. All of these tops yield instant party perfection! This post is in paid partnership with ME + EM.
off the cuff
Wednesday, October 23
I love a good micro trend--the kind that's so niche and subtle it could easily fly under the radar of anyone not in the know. My latest go-to is a cuff bracelet worn over a sleeve. It looks new and fresh and IYKYK cool, especially styled with a sweater or even a jacket or coat! Try working it with the cuff below from Lizzie Fortunato, or these affordable options from Kenneth Jay Lane, Jenny Bird, and Amber Sceats.
in theory
I vividly remember stealing my mother's Ann Taylor trousers to wear during my college internship at People Magazine, as if it happened just yesterday. Well, just yesterday, she wanted payback by appropriating my brand new Theory trousers, above. She acknowledged their flattering fit, the luxuriously soft and lightweight, non-itchy wool, and the gorgeous navy (a perfect neutral!)--all rare qualities to find one pair of pants! Even my twin sister asked to borrow them for an upcoming trip to Rome. Sorry, get your own, because I'll be wearing mine non-stop with everything from denim (Blaze Milano, pictured), polished blazers (Theory) and even simple boxy tees. Finally, we can all call off the search for the best-fitting, infinitely versatile trousers.
party ready
Tuesday, October 22
I firmly believe in buying a great party dress when I find one rather than waiting for a special occasion. For me, options become frustratingly elusive when I need (just) one the most, so I instantly snapped up the under $200 beaded Anthropologie sheath, above, and the leather Mango fringed skirt, below. Also poised to party: this Xu Zhi draped chiffon skirt, this sequin Halston and this maxi La Double J.

As I try not to catastrophize the fact that it's currently in the high 70s in NYC, Chicago and LA, I'll keep preparing for the inevitable arrival of fall! In fact, we should all be stocking up on a statement coat that will save us from thinking about what to wear underneath it! I like these affordable options from Cos, above, Avec Les Filles, below (under $200!), Sezanne (second pic down), and Rouje (another option here and here).
