one and done
Monday, February 18
When my sister reads this post, she will call me a hypocrite. For months, I have been making fun of her predilection for a certain bright pink jumpsuit. I even gave it a (derogatory) nickname: pink panther! To me, it looked just so. . . uncool. But when I was in New York, I saw lots of women in jumpsuits and panthers did not come to mind. Perhaps because they weren't pink? Or they were cutely styled over turtlenecks? They were more fitted and therefore flattering? Whatever the reason, I now believe them totally cool. And I love the one-and-done aspect, too. I would like to out-twin my sis in any of these options from Topshop (also here!), Scotch and Soda, Free People and L.F. Markey. I already have this cutie by Rebecca Taylor--and it's now on sale.
Speaking of sales: Nordstrom is currently staging a mega sale, with amazing stuff like like these Steve Madden lace-up booties, this sexy Reformation dress, and this boho-chic Saint Laurent blouse, all at up t0 70% off!
in the jeans
Friday, February 15
While tie-dye, fleece, and feathers dominated New York's Fall 2019 runways, a new must-have pair of jeans ruled the streets. Their distinct trademarks: straight-legged, relaxed-fit, high-waisted, and, wait for it.... long! In other words, quintessential '90s. (This style also featured prominently in the deep blue Fall 2019 yonder in collections from Mother and Re/Done, with nary a skinny silhouette in sight). I especially like these versions from Topshop (love the fit and price--and this wash, too!!), 3x1, Levi's, Citizens of Humanity, Frame, and Acne Studios.

oversize outerwear
Thursday, February 14
There were neons, there was monotone, there were sexy knee high boots and ugly dad sneakers. I saw a far-reaching spectrum of styles on the streets of New York during Fashion Week, but there was one immutable constant: oversized outerwear. The bigger, the better, it seemed, manifest in coats, puffers, teddy bear jackets, shackets and denim (to be worn into spring!). And it did its job to keep everyone warm and stylish. With LA experiencing monsoon season (it sure feels that way, at least!), I'd like to weather this big act with any of these heavies from Isabel Marant (above), Avec Les Filles, Madewell, Kendall and Kylie, Stand, Apparis, and Topshop.

Yesterday's self-care came in the form of keeping myself warm and comfortable--a formidable feat!--while making the fashion show rounds, starting at Carolina Herrera (a bounty of sunny, citrus-fresh dresses!) and moving along to Zimmermann (Parisian chic with a retro spirit!). Lunch at Sant Ambroeus in Soho had me in a Bascom Projects sweatshirt ($39!), Frame Denim, faux fur and Vans (I can barely walk!) and dinner at L'Avenue (so so chic and such a scene from Karolina Kurkova to Trump lawyer Michael Cohen!) in this brushed Asos oversize jacket and an over-the-top Zara sequin sweater (trying to compensate for the Vans!). Off to cryotherapy in the sleet right now to help ease my pain! Ditching the Vans for these Montelliana boots!
self care
Monday, February 11
Ever since the New Year, I've been running around, Le Catch-ing hard, mommy-ing, socializing--basically working my butt off. Then the inevitable happened: my butt broke. Last week's Buns, Hips, and Thighs class prompted me to burn through too many buns and three chiropractor visits, one MRI, countless ice packs and heat pads later, I am no longer running. I am barely hobbling. So, for me, this Valentine's Day is going to be all about self-care and self-love! What will I do, you ask? Well, for starters, I bought a few books to read in my epsom salt baths (this, this and this) and forwarded a pic of this cute and sparkly Anne Sisteron ear climber to my husband (hint, hint!). I also perked myself up with this just-discovered glow-inducing Sunday Riley Good Genes treatment and cozied up in this Xirena sweater. (P.S. In my fantasy world, I'd take a cue from my friend Stephanie Steinman, above, and wear my Sleeper nightgown as a dress all day long on a beach with a splash of rose! My kind of physical therapy!)

My sister is about to receive a slew of packages over the next few days in her Tribeca apartment--all addressed to me!--as I just shipped a bunch of new city-sleek (and NYFW-caliber) pieces for my visit next week. (Carry-on, always!) Juliana Salazar, the New York City-based stylist and brand strategist and expert cold weather dresser, in these pics here, inspired many of the new looks I sourced, from this Zara tie-dye sweatshirt (poised to be a big street style trend) and made-for-layering windbreaker to these Miu Miu cat-eye sunnies, this Ganni grey knit hoodie, these high-waisted long-length Re/Done cargo pants and this bright striped Ganni sweater (all pictured below). I also bought this crazy embellished Asos dress for dinner at the newly-opened L'Avenue! I think I'm set!

zest for zimmermann
Wednesday, February 6
With rogue (relative!) warmth springing up in NYC this week and soaked LA drying out, it's a fine time to raid The Outnet's Zimmermann sale, chock full of romantic (and Valentine's Day-ready!) dresses, including the pretty floral frock, above, that worked magic for me in both Napa, above, and New York, below. I'd love to get more of these super versatile, always cute looks, particularly this gorgeous broderie anglaise knockout, this ruffled polka dot mini, this lace-trimmed beauty, and this floral playsuit. P.S. The new spring collection just hit the racks and, yes, it's insane! Check it all out here (along with more on-sale pieces).
coat check
Tuesday, February 5
Next Sunday I'm heading back to New York for a few fashion shows and, with rain and snow in the forecast, I'm already strategizing my warm-meets-wow wardrobe. One thing I'll need but don't currently have is this winter's go-to: a check-print coat. As these pictures prove, they perfectly punctuate an outfit to the point where it almost doesn't matter what you have on underneath! That definitely makes things easier, right? Both long and short goes, and since they do so much heavy (outfit) lifting, I am contemplating snapping up both! Thankfully, there are loads of choices that won't break the bank, including this Topshop, this Mango, this H&M, this Pull & Bear, this C/Meo Collective, and this Marc Jacobs (70% off!).
My sis just splurged on this iconic Burberry on sale! See her work it here.
slope style
Monday, February 4
I may still only be an intermediate skier since learning a few years ago, but at least my slope style is on the up and up! In Aspen over the holidays, I was treated to a fashion show-caliber lineup of the chicest mountain-high looks, and here's what I gleaned: it's all about skiwear that makes a style statement both on and off the run. I'm talking printastic puffers, retro-inspired sweaters, luxe hiking boots, and chic fleeces. I rounded up my absolute favorites of the season right here!
