classic status
Monday, April 7
A relatively mellow weekend afforded me some time to spring clean my closet. This is a love/hate activity for me, which I put off doing all the time, but when I'm actually doing it I thoroughly enjoy. Perhaps because I am making room for more! As per usual, what needs to be tossed into the goodbye pile is crystal clear to me, but there is always one or two pieces that for some reason or another give me pause. Such was the case with an old pair of hot pink kitten heels, which I've had since my early '20s and have not really worn since. For this reason, I debated retiring them, but ultimately decided that they're keepers, still very much possessing the power to add pop to any outfit. This pic, which coincidentally appeared on my Pinterest feed today, reinforces my conclusion. In fact, it's re-kindling my love for my pink shoes, convincing me that they (or any bold-hued shoe for that matter) have achieved classic status. (This image has also inspired a new outfit idea!) More high-impact heels I'd love to own: this pink Burberry, this red J.Crew, this fuchsia Manolo Blahnik, and this rosy Alexander Wang.

lap bag
Friday, April 4
These fantastic bag images make me wish I had a nice new statement bag of my own to perch on my lap. If you're listening, Bag Fairy, my specific wish list ranges from this studded Sara Battaglia clutch to this gold-handled M2Malletier leather bag, along with this versatile 3.1 Phillip Lim mini-satchel (45% off--you don't see that everyday!), this distinctly cool Bottega Veneta, this elegant Saint Laurent and this fringed Valentino. My favorite under $300 bag: this pebbled leather Golden Lane clutch. Love the hardware.

knits now
Wednesday, April 2
With an endless winter nearly under our belt, we're all wanting to jettison our heavy jackets. But while spring's chill remains in the air, I love the idea of throwing on a slouchy oversize sweater to keep warm. Inspiration: Netaporter's Holli Rogers, above, and Euro girls about town, below. These cozy options from Equipment, J.Crew, Nili Lotan (30% off), Cheap Monday, and Acne would do the trick nicely.

sheer and lacy
Wednesday, April 2
This pretty lace vintage-looking kimono reminds me of an old treasured Indonesian blouse--a kebaya--my mother gave me years ago and that I now wear only sparingly because I am afraid it will fall apart. I'm thinking this could sub in now and then, whether over a bikini or an evening-ready silk camisole, like this.
1. Equipment silk camisole, $100, netaporter.com
2. Oasis lace kimono, $77, oasis.andotherbrands.com
3. Saint Laurent black pants, $850, netaporter.com

must-have white jeans
Tuesday, April 1
Not that I was judging or anything, but I was amused this morning when a friend of mine (and a devout reader of this site) texted me from the Bahamas, where's she vacationing with her family, asking me whether she should buy the denim espadrilles featured earlier or the python print ankle strap sandals from yesterday's post. (Clearly, I'm not the only one who'd let paradise get in the way of shopping!) Naturally, I responded, "Both," as they're quite different. Her next pressing question: which white jeans are the most flattering? Funny she should ask, because I've been thinking about and researching this myself lately, as white jeans are, of course, a summer essential. You may recall that I've written about my favorite white jeans in the past, but with each year comes new styles and better options. Hence this year's top seven: the amazingly flattering AG Stilt Cigarette (they run small, so go up a size), the classic straight-leg Rag & Bone (similar to above), the skinnifying Paige ankle peg Skyline, the mid-rise slim-leg Victoria Beckham (they're fitted but not tight--just right!), J Brand's high-rise skinny (for a long, lean line), Blank Denim Flare jeans (great price, perfect flare), and J Brand's slim-fitting boyfriends. (P.S. If you are curious to know what my new favorite blue jeans are, they are these straight, high-rise Paper, Denim & Cloth.)
