hot and cold

While I was busy exploring Puglia in bubble(!) mini skirts, above, and other short, 95-degree-proof dresses, below, my twin sister, working in Stockholm, kept pinging me with pictures of fall jackets she wanted to buy. While I am usually quick to fire back my opinion, it was hard to imagine wearing any of the options she presented, given how hot I was. But now that I'm back in LA, I can wrap my head around wool and layers again. (Quick tangent: if you have any inclination to jump on the bubble bandwagon, I recommend this and this. My Chloe belt also came in handy when the billow was too bubbly!) Judge for yourself her picks below by Pixie Market, Cos, and 3.1 Phillip Lim--all approved by me--plus more by Blank NYC, Anine Bing, and Prada.

hot and salty
Thursday, July 25
Spaghetti-ing and swimming my way around the boot of Italy has required a few special dresses that can weather the winds blowing in from Africa and copious amounts of sea salt--in equal measure! Above, I am wearing an oldie but goodie from Mango, and, below, a lace J.Crew and beaded and crochet newbie from Celia B. What I wish was also in the arsenal: this Johanna Ortiz, Farm Rio, Agua Bendita, and this Lisa Marie Fernandez. Ciao ciao!

on the non-stop
Friday, July 19
The historic global tech crash this morning has my sister stuck in the Portland, Oregon airport for 17 hours and re-booked on two consecutive overnight flights to her next fashion shoot destination in Stockholm. Meanwhile, the outage did not derail H&M from launching new arrivals today and me from being on my merry-way shopping! Now en route: the ladder-stitch dress, above, the slick bermudas, below, and the bow-trimmed strap dress. Don't tell my sister, but UPS also just delivered without delay the Self Portrait taffeta blazer, featuring brooch-like buttons (the fit is perfect and it looks way more pricey than it costs), along with the wide-leg Skall Studio jeans, last pic! Wishing you all a glitch-free weekend!
week in review
Thursday, July 18
Even though it's Thursday, I think it's time we do a week in review, because it's already been a helluva week. Oh, and I also broke my rib! (Tripped on my son's volleyball while exercising and fell on to arm of a chair. Ouch!!!) What else has been happening? Sartorially, a lot, and thankfully, all of it good, as evidenced here. Over in Portugal, Vic Montanari is sporting some new and very compelling (and now on sale!) crochet J.Crew, above and below. New York-based Mimi Nguyen is weathering the heat wave with back-baring silhouettes (this and this) plus perfect little bags that stand out by Phillip Lim and Reformation. Hoping Friday is uneventful!
big fish
Wednesday, July 17
Looks like everyone's gone fishing this summer and brandishing their catches for all to see. Big or small, these statement-making fish pendants look freshly caught off some island in the Med, and I'm thoroughly hooked! My deep dive reeled in these options from Alighiere , pictured in second to last pic, (I also love this one with a red cord), Anthropologie, and Ariel Gordon. Perhaps best of all: Sequin NYC makes a fish charm that I can loop on both a leather cord and a gold chain.
