While there were plenty of captivating dresses on Oscar's red carpet last night (Emma Stone, Lupita Nyong'o, Selena Gomez), it's the new parade of dresses I'm seeing this morning that are truly stealing the show with their everyday elegance and versatility. Take the ruffled, above, that I snatched up on Friday and plan to tuck into jeans until the weather warms up. Also compelling: the ready-to-go dress, this linen and lace , 's cover-up, below, this lacestunner, this floral , sandal-friendly sequined , and this strapless maxi.
I ran away. Fled from the stubborn stench of smoke, the tangled logistics of temporary housing, the relentless churn of grief, stress and problem solving. I needed to come up for air--space to breathe (without hearing about debris or the DWP), even if just for 36 hours. So I boarded a 90-minute United flight to , where my twin sister is shooting. At the hotel, I recognized a couple from my flight. We exchanged glances, polite nods. "Escaping the cold in LA," they said. They must be from another part of LA, because I wasn't running from 55-degree weather. Now I'm here, sharing a king sized bed with my sis, stretching out on a chaise lounge, waiting for her to wrap up a work, trying to feel normal. Which will mean taking a long bike ride, reading my book, shopping in the hotel's gift shop (I already spied the made-in-Mexico shell-trimmed bags below), and, yes, scrolling for sun-kissed styles that whisper of brighter days ahead. Because even in the midst of uncertainty, some things remain constant: the pursuit of comfort, a sense of ease, and of course, the perfect dress(es) that make me feel a little lighter. Soon, I hope to slip into these by , , , , , , and . P.S. I'm wearing a new heart pendant from and never-take-off beads, this suit, and a beloved .
When my sister landed in Rome earlier this week, she hit the ground running. First, a 3.5-mile run winding through Borghese Gardens, followed by a meal of fried artichokes and cacio e pepe at Da Armando al Pantheon. Then she called me while shopping: "I just bought the cutest white fringed skirt at ," she said a little breathlessly. "You are going to love it." While I wait for her to bring it home and let me borrow it, I found some things she's going to love in the meantime: the endlessly versatile army jacket, below, 's sheer embroidered skirt, sleek wide-leg pants from , along with , and .
I firmly believe in buying a great party dress when I find one rather than waiting for a special occasion. For me, options become frustratingly elusive when I need (just) one the most, so I instantly snapped up the under $200 , above, and the leather fringed skirt, below. Also poised to party: this draped chiffon skirt, this sequin and this maxi .
