This embellished white tank is spot-on for summer. Dress it up with a structured blazer or play it cool with a pair of crisp white jeans. P.S. It's also an doppleganger. I'd wear it now with...
1. Miss Selfridge studded tank,
2. Uniqlo khaki merino cardigan*,
3. Pour La Victoire fringe clutch,
4. Gianvito Rossi ankle strap pumps,
5. MiH cropped jeans,
* Wear the cardigan unbuttoned with the sleeves pushed up. And buy one size up for a slouchy/casual look.
Spring's erratic weather calls for smart layering, and this oversized Isabel Marant jacket might just be the ultimate wear-over-everything solution. Bonus attributes: it's a fresh update on the long-loved army jacket and it exudes ahead-of-the-curve hipness. Plus, its boxy silhouette is completely in sync with Fall 2012's coolest . Wear it with...
Is it just me or does this sweater not have an vibe? The tassels, the Native American detailing, the fringe on the sleeves... In any case, it looks like the kind of sweater some uber cool downtown-dwelling fashion-y type would wear ever so nonchalantly to go about her day. Wear it with...
Maybe it was the cold, the rain, the snow, or all of above, but casual dressing was in the New York air last week. Which explains the number of ripped jeans seen going to and from the shows. I had a pair that I wore a few years ago, and it was only last month that I banished them into retirement (i.e., gave them away). Guess that was premature. Oh, well. If I don't sit this one out, I might just go for these from Asos.
A biker jacket rendered in boucle fabric is counter-intuitive--and totally amazing. Considering all the oversize jackets on the fall 2012 runways, I'd go one size up in this one. That way I can pack some serious layers underneath it and wear it into the ground.
Ikat + denim = Jeanious! Seriously, how cute are these printed jeans? They also come in . I can't decide which one is cooler. But let's start with tried and true blue. Wear them with...
I just got back from a fun week in the snow (more details on that later). While it was amazing to breathe in the mountain air, ski, build a snow man with my kids, and indulge in some apres-ski delight (i.e., drink body-warming, velvet-smooth red wine), I also enjoyed sporting my cold-weather clothes, namely my plush cashmere scarves, chunky sweaters, and faux fur jacket--things that are very neglected living in LA. So, here's another wintry goodie that will serve me well on future trips to the mountains, back east and on those rare chilly days in LA (which we're in for this week, apparently). I love the classic double-breasted, belted silhouette and the hunter green wool (though I could see myself swapping the belt out with a vintage brown leather one instead). Wear it with...
's editor-in-chief Brandon Holley was in LA last week, and we had back-to-back meetings with all kinds of interesting folks. Last Friday, we went to the offices to see co-founder (and our friend) Hillary Kerr. Brandon showed up wearing an apres ski-like, color-blocked sweater similar to this one, with a over it and crisp blue jeans. Then she added a bold gold necklace. It was the essence of casual chic. You can wear this one with...
*These high tops might seem adventurous and/or offbeat, but get used to seeing them. Every primo designer is offering high-end versions, from Isabel Marant (which are selling out on netaporter.com and are all the rage among fashion insiders) to Gucci and Lanvin. Check out style street star and Moda Operandi exec Taylor Tomasi Hill sporting her sneakers to a New York fashion show here.
P.S. Brandon proved her deft packing skills, by wearing the same Boy by Band of Outsiders blazer to lunch in Venice Beach the next day, with matching navy shorts and this 10 Crosby blouse and simple sandals. It was a very chic-New Yorker-at-the-beach outfit. I am totally going to copy her.
P.P.S. If you're a stickler for cashmere, try this color-blocked jumper from J. Crew.
P.S. How insane is the Isabel Marant sweater? It's so versatile (over a slinky camisole, a fun bikini top or one of those retro bodysuits that all the designers decided to make this season, despite their impracticality/overexposure issues). The orange Aldo shoes are also adorable. They're bright and cheery, but almost like a neutral, so they'll go with everything from a white dress to blue jeans. And the necklace: it's on back order till March (guess everyone likes it as much as I do), but imagine it with a white tank or a black sweater...So good!
