Typically it's the hero skirts, statement tops and technicolor accessories that trigger the camera flashes outside the shows during New York Fashion Week. This time around, it's--surprise, surprise!--the humble t-shirt. Show-goers strutted out their favorite (read: most reliable) wardrobe staples, including Leandra Medine, above and below, who opted for fresh-looking gray and navy versions, while others stuck to traditional whites. The newly resurrected tee is (once again) proving to be the perfect and most comfortable foil to more eye-popping pieces (think: plaid coats, graphic jackets, and vivid knits). I swear by these iterations from , , , , and .

Everyone agreed at last night's alfresco dinner for x 'x collab (BTW: so cute!) that fall had officially arrived. The damp chill had us wrapped up in blankets and dining shoulder to shoulder for extra body warmth. With this reality check, I can now seriously contemplate new fall layers, or at least transitional ones that will update my below-65-degree wardrobe. One way to go: the overshirt, which ladies in other (colder) lands are employing to stave off the crisp air. They're sporting them over pretty much everything, from dresses to jeans, effecting casual cool with a dash of the unexpected. I have a hunch these overshirts will be out in full force during New York Fashion Week. The lovely thing is that we might already have these oversized shirts in our closets, but I dug some more good ones for you just in case from , (similar to directly below), , , and .

The back-to-work clock is ticking loudly, but at least I can go back in stylish ease--with a big button-down. Right now I can throw it on over a bathing suit, or with a pair of shorts or a denim mini. The loose fit yields much-needed ventilation in the August heat, and it looks effortlessly cool. Come fall, it's nothing but wearable (and chic!) with jeans, midi skirts and everything in between. I'd like to get a jump start on this trend now with these guys from (similar to above), , (pictured below),, and .

For the rest of the summer, I'm going to exploit the cuteness of bow-trimmed camisoles. (Reason: above.) I'll take advantage of their easy, breezy, straight-up fun, and how they're a hot-weather slam dunk paired with shorts or jeans. Now here's an easy way to shine at summer soirees.

Random but true: I binge wear white t-shirts. For weeks, I'll wear them incessantly, then, all of a sudden, abstain completely. This summer, my white tees (yes, plural) will be out in full force. To counterbalance a statement skirt or print shorts. To stay comfortable without compromising coolness. And perhaps, most importantly, to make my get-the-kids-to-camp-on-time-routine a bit easier. As we all know finding the right t-shirt is no simple task, as nailing all the details--fit, fabric, sleeve length--can be complex. This spring's romantic blouses are so up my I-wear-my-heart-on-my-sleeve alley! Kitted out with ruffles, lace, and/or puffy sleeves, they're exactly what my flirty dreams are made of. My favorites of the season come from , below, , , , , , and .

In my book, effortlessly chic tops are the ideal summer staples, because they go with everything from out-to-dinner jeans to a cute bikini (and then some!). The cotton blouse, is a prime example, with its soft stripes and statement-making embroidered sleeves. I also like these standouts from ,, , , and .
