The other day I spotted what could possibly be the coolest t-shirt ever: it tied in the front and had a long dramatic sash. Turns out the t-shirt was actually a dress by , which a woman had stylishly tied around her abdomen, transforming it into a dramatic top. Then along came this fantastic discovery: a Topshop tee that ties cutely/discreetly in the back.
Now that the fashion tribe has moved to London for the shows, it will be interesting to see if New York's biggest runway trends--i.e., the florals, high ruffled necklines, fringe, crochet, slip dresses and bare shoulders--will make their way across the pond. One street style look that has sailed over successfully is the white t-shirt. It's suddenly all the rage again, but doing its usual work, teaming up reliably with everything from easy jeans to statement skirts to proper trousers. My favorite current versions are by (last pic), , , , and .
My kids went back to school today. Finally! As they came down for breakfast this morning in their uniforms--crisp blue button-downs and khakis--I wished that I too had a back-to-school uniform. One that would center around a white shirt, for it goes with just about everything, plus is easy to wear and transcendentally stylish. Since I don't need to abide by school rules, I can tweak this white shirt as often as I see fit, and this semester, I'm suiting up in versions that are anything but basic. They're uniform in that they all possess interesting, eye-catching details, such as flared sleeves, an asymmetric hemline, maybe even a ruffle or two. My A+ go-to's would be these by , , , , , , , , and . The blouse pictured above is by .
