LA's current (almost week-long!) heat wave is calling for my most summery embroidered tunics. As some stylist friends and I chatted away at a party the other night, we noticed that we were all wearing high-waisted wide leg jeans and button down-blouses. Call it coincidence--or the new chic uniform. It's easy dressing and yet manages to do the impossible: look both timelessly classic and right this minute. A Saturday night dinner at my sister's house featured a delicious Mallorcan feast (courtesy of a chef friend in town from the Spanish isle) and great fashion inspo, provided by a television producer pal, who turned up in a classically chic striped top, wide leg trousers and a Burberry trench. The striped staple, above, featuring an anything-but-basic zippered neckline, captures her distinctly cool style perfectly.

Nothing like a fun fringed top to remind us that spring is on its way!

At a festive soiree last Friday night several of my friends turned up in elegant cropped tops that showed just the tiniest sliver of skin. I'd like to follow suit with this version that features a cool kimono-style tie in the back. (P.S. High-waist pants or skirts are key to pulling off a crop top stylishly.)
