water works

I've always wanted to be one of those dewy-skinned, flaxen-haired girls who sips from a water-filled HydroFlask all day long. Meanwhile, I count myself lucky if I get my 8 daily glasses in. So for my New Year's resolution I decided I'd schedule in water breaks, and 10 days in, I am on track! (Skin's looking better, too!) Also, randomly, on the subject of water and on the recommendation of a friend, I got myself a new filtered Jolie shower head that is seriously working wonders--no joke! My hair, for starters, is feeling and looking fuller. It makes sense though that the water I put on my body (read: my skin and largest organ!) is as important as the water I put in my body. LA water contains chlorine, heavy metals and contaminants (e.g., magnesium, calcium, copper, lead, arsenic) that are simply unnatural and not good for my skin and hair, and using a better shampoo or conditioner is not going to fix this. P.S. The shower head is designed to maximize water pressure, too, so all around it's a winner! In other random beauty news: Moda Operandi just launched its tightly edited beauty platform, and, of course, I want everything, especially the lines I've never heard of!

I've been wearing zip-up sweaters like crazy lately, appreciating how the extended collars add oomph to my outerwear. So, I scooped up another one, the Sandro, in the last pic, and I'm psyched because it also looks chic and unexpected layered over something feminine and delicate. I'm also into these by And Other Stories, The Great and Bernadette.

Another bomb cyclone is lashing LA--the first of five storms predicted to drench SoCal through January 19! Naturally, this calls for another coat or two to save for a (torrential) rainy day. I love Monica de La Villardière's reversible By Malene Birger coat, above, that's now 60% off (see reverse side in the last pic). These by Frankie Shop, H&M, and Loft will also do the trick. A cute bucket hat, similar to photo below, is also very much warranted. I like this one by Loewe that I can wear rain or shine.

Today marks the year's first full moon of 2023, and since it will be at its furthest from the Earth, it's called a "micromoon." Another once-a-year event worth checking out is The Outnet's rare 85%-off(!) sale, featuring dresses like the above from Antik Batik for a mere $85. Also spotted: the unique Missoni bag, below, this Zimmerman lace lovely and this alluring Dolce & Gabanna. Shop it all here.

Comfortable leather pants are not axiomatic like lived-in jeans, but this pair by Veronica Beard is the definition of easy peasy. The mid-weight stretch faux leather, casual cropped length and zip-up waist yield a perfect everyday staple that's way more fashion-y yet just as versatile as jeans. These other options from AG, Mother and Good American pull off the same magic!

A masculine, oversized blazer may be the trendy go-to right now, but might I suggest another always-chic option? I love a belted jacket's cinched waist, and its flattering, feminine silhouette. Plus, it looks polished, fresh and different. What's more, designers like Nili Lotan will be pushing you hard to get one under your belt this spring, so why not jump now?! Consider these by Toteme, Bottega Veneta, Zara, and H&M.

Days and days of pounding rain are making me feel like I'm living in London rather than LA. So I'm looking to Britain-based stylist Jessica Skye to whisk me through the grey and gloom, easily and elegantly. Her seasoned style is anchored in a simple tenet: always wear a statement coat! She favors the scarf-trimmed Toteme, which she has in TWO colors (this less expensive version from Cos is a score!), a classic waxed jacket, and an oversized camel coat. Accessories like knee-high boots, a cashmere beanie, cat-eye Bottega Veneta sunnies and a chic Celine bag kick things up to consistently cool and chill!

While I was envious of those who skied fresh powder in Aspen over the holidays, I didn't miss the black-diamond challenge of dressing off the slopes. I find it super tricky to balance looking cool and not freezing. Clearly, Kendall Jenner does not have any issues with this, with her Simon Miller coat, above, and leather Loewe bomber, below. I'd try my best with this cute floral print puffer that I bet others on Aspen's Ajax Express would assume was by La Double J Other Aspen/cold-weather approved but not break-the-bank pieces: this cutest ever Kitri, this fair isle H&M, and crochet Sea.

New year, new essentials! I'm pressing reset with an updated classic, the cute button-trim sweater, above, that's bound to be in heavy rotation this winter.
