Honestly, this solitary sapphire and emerald earring that has been stationed on my lobe for weeks has garnered way more than $460 worth of compliments!

the short-sleeve shirt
Wednesday, July 21
Introducing the new linchpin to my summer uniform: the short-sleeve shirt. It's easy and laid-back, but still buttoned-up and pulled-together. Plus, it works everywhere and with just about everything, and yes, even wonderfully over a swimsuit. I just bought the pinstriped one, above, by Pixie Market, but I also love these by Alex Mill, Madewell, and Chloe.

It's official: summer's sleeper hit is the sarong. A versatile towel/top/dress/skirt, the sarong is this season's most compelling cover-up and new beach bag must. But it must have the trappings of a statement caftan--a bold print, vibrant shade and breathable fabric. I like these standouts from Tory Burch (very Hermes looking!), La Double J, Farm Rio, Maaji and Missoni Mare.

With European vacationers carpet bombing my Instagram feed, it's refreshing to see someone summering back home in New York City--and so stylishly at that. Meet Janelle Marie Lloyd who finesses (and then some) downtown chic. Thankfully, it's a look that works anywhere, from Santa Monica to Santorini, plus it's anchored in totally accessible pieces from H&M, Madewell (jacket and shorts, above), Lioness (second pic down), The Frankie Shop (last snap), and other affordable lines. Also inspired by her polished yet relaxed style are these musts from Pixie Market, Mara Hoffman, Vans, Boden, and Khaite.

water works

My favorite place in the world is in the ocean, and fortunately, I've been spending lots of time there, from the Pacific to the Atlantic (and later this summer to the Tyrrhenian Sea!) When I'm paddling or surfing, I like a little more coverage than my usual string bikinis--but still want to look stylish. I have found amazing statement-making options from La Double J, above, Good American, Kule x Cover, Billabong, and Love Shack Fancy x Hurley.
oh, joy!

Who knew it would take so long for Australian designer Shona Joy to land on my welcoming shores?! I recently discovered this 20-year-old brand via Instagram (@Jazy_g) and love everything about it: the signature '70s bohemian vibe, the neutral earthy palette, all the billowy sleeves, and, best of all, the wallet-friendly prices. The dress, above, is a hell yes! (It also comes in white and a mini version!) I also adore this lace-up dress, this tiered midi (on sale), and these linen shorts.

jumbo jackets
Friday, July 16
Apparently bigger is better in Paris--at least when it comes to jackets. The fashion set is taking cover in oversized denim and barn jackets, and it's no wonder: They're easy to throw on, work with pretty much every outfit and yet make a like these from L'Agence, Alex Mill, Acne Studios, Iro, and Anine Bing.

Over the years, I've accumulated a healthy stash of amazing--but inexpensive--caftans/cover-ups, and recently I added some more! I got the above dress and this from Zara along with these beach-to-street beauties from Yumi Kim, Shoshanna, Playa Lucila, Derek Lam 10 Crosby, and H&M.

Over the weekend, my sister and I whizzed in to Amagansett, New York, to launch our latest and greatest collaboration with Clare Vivier--a chic set of nesting bags designed for summer travels! At the party, friends and more snapped up almost all the inventory on hand! The Foulard or scarf bag--ideal for balmy nights out--adds a jolt of cuteness to any outfit! The Soliel basket tote with chain link handles is polished yet casual, and seamlessly goes from beach to bar. I threw both bags, along with all my other travel essentials, in to super verstaile leather-trimmed tote to travel cross-country (and back). Ready to go! Get yours here before they're gone!!
storming the city
Friday, July 9
Tropical Storm Elsa didn't stop me from dressing up for lunch at La Goulue yesterday--although the rain did add an unfortunate rumpled effect! Oh, well, what's a little water, especially when the dress cost me $30! I also packed these under $200 beauties from Asos, English Factory, Faithfull the Brand, and En Saison. Happy weekend, all!
