white boots
Monday, September 17
If I had to boil it down to just one must-have for fall, it would no doubt be a pair of white boots. They'll instantly make your old jeans and blazer combo look hot-off-the-press new and cool, and because they're neutral, they go with pretty much every single thing. Done and done. I am way into these versions by Balenciaga (pictured above), Sam Edelman, Dolce Vita, Loeffler Randall, Alexandre Birman, and Vince.
shell on
Thursday, September 13
If you haven't yet scored your fashion-insider-must-have shell necklace, I recommend you snap up Shashi's affordable choker, which looks best (and so right this season) layered with lots of gold, like this Anne Sisteron, this Sasha Samuel, and this Adina Reyter.
bragging whites
Wednesday, September 12
In case there was any confusion about whether to wear white pants after Labor Day, these hot-off-the-press street style snaps should clear things up. Fashion Week show-goers are lighting up autumn's gloom with lots of cream, from classic jeans to sophisticated high-waisted trousers. The key to this look is accessorizing with textural wintry staples such as boots, cozy sweaters, and cold weather's go-to hue, black. I think white wide-leg trousers are particularly fresh and polished, specifically these iterations from The Reformation (just got these and love!), Helmut Lang, Vince (second picture down), GRLFRND, Raey, Topshop, and Victoria Beckham (similar to above).
outre outerwear

One more thing to add to your fall shopping list: a super duper statement coat. Right now, New York fashion show attendees are emphasizing the bolder, the better (think wild animal prints to mad plaids). The best options in my book come from Etro (above), Ganni (pictured below) or this one, Cupcakes and Cashmere, Storets, Topshop, Baum und Pferdgarten, Scotch & Soda, and Mango.
top of the charts
Monday, September 10
Typically it's the hero skirts, statement tops and technicolor accessories that trigger the camera flashes outside the shows during New York Fashion Week. This time around, it's--surprise, surprise!--the humble t-shirt. Show-goers strutted out their favorite (read: most reliable) wardrobe staples, including Leandra Medine, above and below, who opted for fresh-looking gray and navy versions, while others stuck to traditional whites. The newly resurrected tee is (once again) proving to be the perfect and most comfortable foil to more eye-popping pieces (think: plaid coats, graphic jackets, and vivid knits). I swear by these iterations from Hanes x Karla, Bassike, Acne Studios, Re/Done, and The Reformation.
prints charming
Friday, September 7
New York City reached 98 degrees yesterday, and eye-popping prints were hot on the streets. Who better to exhibit this blazing trend than ahead-of-the-curve fashion show go-ers, who chose to go loud and proud, with everything from polka dots to plaids to wild florals. From my perspective, a mix of disparate ones looked even better! I'd like to jump on the bandwagon with this spotted Ganni wrap skirt (last pic, below), this Milly striped sweater, this snake-print Topshop skirt, this Stelen plaid wrap, these leopard patterned Miaou jeans, this checked Jakke faux fur jacket, this Asos animal-print midi, this Acne Studios patchwork dress, and this polka dot Rixo London frock.
the overshirt
Thursday, September 6
Everyone agreed at last night's alfresco dinner for Goop x CB2'x collab (BTW: so cute!) that fall had officially arrived. The damp chill had us wrapped up in blankets and dining shoulder to shoulder for extra body warmth. With this reality check, I can now seriously contemplate new fall layers, or at least transitional ones that will update my below-65-degree wardrobe. One way to go: the overshirt, which ladies in other (colder) lands are employing to stave off the crisp air. They're sporting them over pretty much everything, from dresses to jeans, effecting casual cool with a dash of the unexpected. I have a hunch these overshirts will be out in full force during New York Fashion Week. The lovely thing is that we might already have these oversized shirts in our closets, but I dug some more good ones for you just in case from J.Crew, Paul & Joe (similar to directly below), 3x1, Isabel Marant Etoile, and Topshop.
dall's fall do
Tuesday, September 4
Copenhagen-based stylist Karoline Dall sticks to a compelling summer-to-fall dressing formula that's not only incredibly chic but, lucky for us, comfortable and easy to emulate! It cleverly combines both warm and cold weather staples--think chunky sweaters and flip flops!--to cool, spot-on effect. Another hallmark of her uniform is color, and lots of it, which is right on point this season. I'd like to work this look with these silky, saturated slips from Lee Mathews, Tibi, Frame and Topshop; these eye-popping knits by Jason Wu (similar to above), Ganni and Acne Studios; along with these sharp plaid blazers from MKT Studio and Anine Bing. A rainbow assortment of flip flops can be found here.
reality check
Friday, August 31
Perhaps Nordstrom's sale can ease the blow of going back to work? I found some sharp-looking styles that are sure to make me stress less over the long (last summer!) weekend, including these fall-perfect Isabel Marant boots, this chic Tibi white button-down, this pretty Rebecca Taylor striped midi, and these Jeffrey Campbell suede mules. For those in denial, there are also plenty of endless summer pieces that will keep you looking sunny, including the striped Loeffler Randall tote, below, this Misa striped top, and this Milly linen wrap. Check it all out here.
