eat your cake
Friday, September 13
I'd be thrilled if you mistook this for a photo of me, but it's actually my twin sister Coliena. She's a smidge slimmer than I am and is wearing the 3.1 Phillip Lim dress I've been coveting. She scored it through CAKE, the new invite-only membership that grants thousands of dollars in credits for the most desirable in-season styles. Just to set the record straight: I was the one who got her the membership! So, that makes the 3.1 Phillip Lim dress partly mine, right? Seriously, the way it works: to join CAKE, you have to be invited by a current member (that's me!). The $100/year membership gives you $$$ to shop go-to brands like Jenni Kayne, Cara Cara, Another Tomorrow, Veronica Beard, CO, and yes, 3.1 Phillip Lim, among a robust and quickly-growing roster. At this point I have just a limited number of invites to share with you, my loyal readers. You can sign up HERE and enter my name Marlien as your sponsor! I recommend doing it ASAP while there are still some spots left.
in my clutches

If you missed out on the Alexa Chung x Madewell collaboration, specifically the above epic suede blazer, a few sizes have just been re-stocked. Go get 'em here! Or, you can just pounce on the just-launched Staud x Wrangler collection, below, featuring a few updates to bestsellers from previous joint ventures, giving us another chance to swoop up what sold out so quickly, like the baggy jeans (now offered in 6 colors!) and oversized denim jackets. Speaking of oversized, did you see Coach's clasp-frame clutches for Spring 2025, below? (In case you didn't get the memo, Coach is totally cool again. Check out its last-quarter results, if you don't believe me!) Too bad my kids don't have those cute stickers lying around the house anymore, otherwise I'd steal them and put a few on one my bags for fun! In the meantime, I can replicate the look with this and this. TGIF!

Much like NYC-based Lizzie Hadfield, above, I plan to (unapologetically) wear my toe-baring Khaite sandals well into fall and employ a chic coat to stay covered-up--along with some just-launched cool-weather styles from H&M, including the textured blazer, below, the coated black skirt, the pocketed utility jacket, and the studded chiffon dress.

the real real
Wednesday, September 11
It's refreshing to see that New York Fashion Week thus far has shifted away from the need for flamboyant outfits. This season, the focus has turned to a more real-life approach, with street style embracing everyday t-shirts and button-downs, along with, of course, classic denim. But make no mistake, the t-shirts and jeans on display are the equivalent of your Sunday best, rendered in perfectly-cut proportions, primo fabrics and the most-flattering washes. The most coveted examples include this holy grail TWP white t-shirt, these Tibi jeans (pictured below), this St. Agni tank top, and this belted denim Madewell jacket (last pic): These staples are not complete with standout accents like this Khaite belt, these studded Simon Miller flats, this Tiffany Elsa Peretti cuff, and these must-have loafers by The Row. P.S. I love the white head-to-toe Proenza Schouler, pictured below, that mitigates the brainwork of assembling an outfit!

mimi's musts
Tuesday, September 10
There's a no-fuss, everyday-ease to New York City-based Mimi Nguyen's style that's seemingly impermeable, like nothing can upend her throw-on-and-go chicness. Fortunately for us, it's fairly simple to emulate--as long as we stock up on her carefully-chosen elevated basics. The best of them are featured here: a white pair of Everlane curved jeans, a perfectly-oversized white button-down from Anthropologie, a J.Crew lace-trimmed slip skirt, a long and well-cut Toteme trench coat, a Dorsey Riviere choker and pendant, a Heaven Mayhem brooch, a roomy Cos clutch, a Massimo Dutti tank, a Jenni Kayne white t-shirt, a J.Crew bucket bag (with a cult following because it looks exactly like The Row!) and, of course, a pop of pink (Prada-inspired) pumps (love them in white, too!).

I was so bummed to miss J.Crew's party at the New York Public Library last Thursday night, when it resurrected my favorite childhood restaurant La Cote Basque. My sister attended without me (wearing my dress!) but indulged in the petite baguettes and caviar for me. At least I can take solace in sporting one of the night's main stars: the long barn jacket!
