I was thisclose to buying the Alaia ballet flats, above, but then I came across the pair from Anthropologie, below, for $160 and was like, hang on a minute! It comes in all the Alaia-approved colors, too! If I saved myself all that money, then I could treat myself instead to the eyelet H&M pajamas, below, that I would definitely not keep confined to the bedroom, new denim shorts from Zara to wear this spring, and the statement-making leather Johanna Ortiz top. I'm sure that's not it...
miami memo
Monday, February 5
The atmospheric river (think firehose-like rain) that's currently drenching Los Angeles is not dimming my memories of Miami's sunny skies last weekend. You can read all about where I ate, what I wore and where I will go next in my latest Substack, out now. Read it here! What I did not include is that next time I will bring this Johanna Ortiz leather halter top, this Solid and Striped dress, and Magda Burtrym slingbacks to look more like a local!

J.Crew's womenswear director Olympia Gayot has a remarkable knack for mixing and matching what she designs with high-end investment pieces--to the point where it's extremely hard to tell which is which! Her talents clearly influenced J.Crew's latest collection, rife with elegant, luxe-looking pleated trousers, midi satin pleated skirts (hello, Prada), the funnel-neck jacket, below, pearl-studded jeans (last pic), this croc-embossed belt, and this sweater blazer.

hats off

Hats off to all the daring Danes braving the wind and snow during Copenhagen Fashion Week! I went down a rabbit hole digging up some options to wear when I go to New York Fashion Week in February and found a slew on Amazon and Etsy (here and here), along with these head-turners from Kule, Janessa Leone, Rugan Baginskiy, and Urban Outfitters (the striped/heart shaped, below, more here!).

While we're currently pondering how many more months are in the month of January, let's also examine our Scandinavian sisters who endure a much longer, colder, and darker winter. Typically, they do it boldly--via bright, every-color-under-the rainbow hues. But as these snaps from Copenhagen Fashion Week reveal, muted shades are on the up and up and so are big statement accessories (like the mariner's bracelet and Dorsey Riviere, above!) with a smidge of leopard print, just for kicks. Also strong: colored tights, socks and sheer stockings, plus a myriad of brown bags, big (The Row) and small (Prada, above). I'll take me a long Simkhai grey coat, a Prada statement skirt, some fresh new J.Crew leather, and fuzzy Lisa Yang cashmere to get through the rest of this long winter!
