sheer to shearling
Tuesday, January 30
LA's yo-yo weather this week will have me going from sheer to shearling in a snap--and Shopbop's sale is going to help me wing it super stylishly, starting with the Montelinliana boots, above, at 40% off (love the blue laces, going to Aspen with me in March!), the crochet Gimaguas dress ($100!), below, that will be easily layered/winterized for running around upcoming New York Fashion Week, along with the most perfect everyday black boots by Staud, the Lioness bomber jacket (think: over a grey hoodie!), this pinstriped Madewell blazer, these Slvrlake khaki pleated trousers, and this Le Jean denim skirt. Right-now closet staples!
sister support
Friday, January 26
It was Cartagena, Colombia last week. Today it's Costa Careyes, Mexico. Miami tomorrow. My sister's photo-shoot schedule has her too busy to Face Time, she says, but then a pic, like the one, above, pops up on her Instagram feed, among many other scenic snapshots! So I am jumping on a plane today to alleviate her work stress, because I'm such a supportive sister! I'll be borrowing her new Agua Bendita bikini, above, that she somehow squeezed in time to buy while on location in South America, and supplementing her South Beach-ready suitcase with fresh, unsullied pieces: this lace-trimmed For Love & Lemons blouse-meets-cover-up, this versatile MSGM mini dress, this statement-making macrame-trimmed Zimmermann tote bag (on sale!), this Missoni Mare bikini top (also on sale), and this ethereal Simkhai for dinner at Mandolin. Off to work, I go!

This morning began like most, at 6:10AM, reading glasses on, phone in hand, still in bed yet on a mission to catch up with the wide-awake world. However, I wasn't scrolling through my Instagram feed, text messages and email like usual. Instead, I was double-clicking on a dozen links in Sarah's Retail Diary, an info-dense Substack, written by a seasoned retail exec and trend researcher, that's become my go-to oracle of fashion-oriented business intelligence. Today, I discovered Julia Rabinowitz, founder of The Milennial Decorator, who sells the most desirable vintage shoes (and belts, watches, jewelry) via highly-anticipated drops 10-12 times a year. Her snaps here! Which prompted me to do a quick check at The Real Real, yielding the $227 Altuzarra fringed jacket now coming my way (there's more, BTW). Then I segued onto Vogue, and its street style coverage at Paris Couture shows, which had me contemplating layering a crochet statement skirt (this or this) over a conventional midi for some fashion-week fire. I am still on a roll!

sock hop
Wednesday, January 24
While white tights paraded down Chanel's haute couture catwalk in Paris yesterday, colored socks bedecked the boulevards--and not just the ubiquitous crimson crew. Think out-of-the-box blue, green, white, purple--whatever goes with the rest of the outfit. I'm betting this trend will take to the streets here back at home and going all in with this cashmere set in a neutral--ish range. Another source for inexpensive options here and here!

Toteme's first-ever runway show in Paris yesterday brought out the best in black. There was a high concentration of the brand's signature long leather coats, shoulder bags, midi-skirts, shearling jackets and mid-rise jeans, along with sheer skirts, lace-up flats and bow-tie blouses (last pic). P.S. Pixie Market just came out with this (affordable) one-way ticket to Paris in its prime.
