A cocktail party in Malibu last night served up the usual offerings: a glistening ocean backdrop, bite-sized cilantro-laced tacos, Oscar-winning guests and perfectly-distressed denim. One friend turned up in a new pair of slightly faded, nonchalantly-long Closed jeans--A.K.A., the right-this-minute silhouette (pictured above). Fall's must-have flats are already stepping out and about. Mango's Alaia-inspired Mary Janes, above, and Dear Frances Khaite-like mesh ballerinas, below, are hitting my stride. I recently bought this sparkly pair by Steve Madden along with the $44(!) pearl slides, last pic, because summer's not over yet! I'm also eyeing these by Le Monde Beryl, Stuart Weitzman and Loeffler Randall.

Manhattan may be the polar opposite of Montauk (especially on a summer Friday at 5PM) but, bizarrely, they can accommodate the same exact wardrobe! A Saturday afternoon whirl around East Hampton cracked wide open what my wardrobe is lacking: a decadent day dress that seamlessly goes from beach to street. This morning I filled that gaping hole with the embroidered Vita Kin, above, at 20% off! (Just heads up that there are all kinds of wardrobe heroes, along with everyday statement jewelry on sale at Matches!) And while everyone out east is opting for the raffia Loewe, I prefer the leather-trimmed, more-under-the-radar Chloe, below, also on sale!

How cute--and essential--are these bib shirts? They're from the Gap and on sale, so I bought them both! Staple stripes, above, and the lace, below, are amazingly versatile: dressed down with denim or polished with tailored trousers!
