My phone has become a Fashion Week fitting room. Friends headed to New York next week keep sending me selfies of potential outfits. And the funny thing is, no one is actually trying to look “dressed.” In fact, looking like you tried too hard may be the one thing everyone is trying hardest to avoid. Fashion Week is technically about what’s coming next, but for the people attending it, it’s also something of a wardrobe reset—a chance to debut a few carefully chosen new things while somehow making them look like things you’ve owned forever. Maybe that’s the useful takeaway here: you don’t need a whole new wardrobe this fall to change the plot. Sometimes , a pair of new (old-looking) jeans (I’m wearing just-launched , below), a crazy necklace (hello, ), a belt where there wasn’t one before ( and ), a (esp when it’s $65!), or a statement you’re wearing several degrees too soon is enough to make everything you already own feel like it belongs to the next chapter. Which is exactly what I’m trying on now: the , a forever tank, these (that can walk all the way uptown), the the sparkly $70 pinky ring (that my niece tried to pinch from me earlier this week), the cobalt t-shirt (or a more ), ’s pre-layered jumper, and the ($139!) asymmetrical trench coat (I hear it’s going to rain next week!). P.S. I am also loading up/tying on some more tried-and-true button downs (last pic) for $50 bucks on sale (and ).
