Last night marked my official kickoff to holiday–dinner season. Tessa Tran of Chan Luu gathered a chic little crew at Jar in Los Angeles—the kind of warm, wood–paneled, softly-lit hideaway that instantly makes you want to check out other people, linger in your banquette, and pretend you're in say... Manhattan. And oh, the onion rings! Perfectly crisp halos of joy. The conversation ricocheted from fashion to full-blown philosophical to… well, whatever category 31/Atlas falls into. (No one at the table knew what I was talking about, which made me (A) question the algorithm that powers my Instagram feed and (B) consider whether I’ve slipped into a niche corner of the internet that I may never find my way out of.) Then, naturally, we detoured into aliens, followed by the new-to-me drama of toddler facial sheet masks (!) —a controversy I had zero prior knowledge of. And because it was a fashionista–heavy fête, the talk eventually turned to going-out tops—specifically, which ones will define this season. Everyone had an opinion; everyone was right (this, this, this and this), . While we would all love to throw on one of the Charvet x Chanel tux tops, above, the price tag is prohibitive. Instead we But the one thing we didn’t debate? What to wear on the bottom. The entire table arrived in Chan Luu’s drawstring silk pants-a unanimous masterstroke. They’re floaty yet polished, pajama-level comfortable yet evening-ready, and they somehow work with everything from sequined camisoles to slouchy knits. A holiday hero if I’ve ever met one. Have a great get-ready-for-the-holidays weekend!
